    Default F1 Is Dying

I'm switching, I can no longer stand this boring form of racing where the pecking order is interfering with the racing, BTCC and A1 is so much better, well done Bernie, I'm sure at the time you pulled it out of the gutter you meant well, but as in everything good the money ppl arrive and spoil it.

I have never been interested in F1. But then each to their own.

It used to be awesome Ed, back in the 70's it was true Gladiator material, Peterson,Hunt,Lauda,Villenerve SNR, to name but a few, through the 80's it started to get tamed down mainly due to 2 of the above dying and 1 nearly at the old Nurburging plus our own Tom Pryce at Kyalami SA in 77,then arrived Mansell and Senna to resume old fashioned *I'm coming through* racing, and since Ayrton and Roland Ratz died in 94 it's gradually had the nuts chopped off of it.

And a lot of the drivers attitude sucks as well, almost a direct mirror of the difference between Billy Bremner,Tommy Smith and Norman Hunter vs Ferdinand and co of the modern football age.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens at McLaren in the future, it's reported LH said to RD ... don't you everdo that to me again ... RD retorted .... don't you everspeak to me like that again ... to which LH said you numpty or similar, it's also been said the McLaren bosses although couldn't back LH up for his words were extremely chuffed with the lads spirit, cos that's what makes a true champion.

totally aggree. B E seems to think he owns the whole lot and can do whatever HE wants, even deciding all on his own which countries get to host a round of F1.. some good drivers but too much safety and silly quallifying. BE talks up the safety issue and in the next breath talks about night races!!! work that one out!!!!

I think there's more to the Hamilton-Alonso spat than meets the eye. The whole thing was apparently triggered by Hamilton repeatedly ignoring team orders earlier on in the session. In post-race interview, Dennis said there were "no innocent parties".

F1 is getting worse, but I think you're all being a bit unfair to Bernie Ecclestone - his only interest is in the commercial rights. IMHO the problem is Max Mosley and the FIA who make the rules.

To my mind, F1 should be about pushing the barriers of technology as much as the drivers. There are umpteen race series where the drivers compete in identical cars and they're invariably ****. In a few years time, the car on my drive will be more technologically advanced than an F1 car and that's just wrong.

The cost saving measures in F1 (limiting engine revs, using engines for more than one race, no electronic aids, etc) are irrelevant to the viewer. If that means some of the smaller teams can't afford to compete then so be it.

I'd give the teams a fixed amount of fuel for a race (or even a just a fixed amount of energy) and tell them to get on with it. Anything goes. (I'd maybe knock off some points or something if anybody gets killed).

Jeremy Clarkson had a good idea: Pay the drivers just enough to live on, but then give them a £1M bonus everytime they overtake someone on the track.
