Unhappy twin axle caravan and 2.2 dti saloon?

bailey ranger 620/6- MTPLM 1540kg, if payload reduced to under 1500kg ,would this be a safe combination? have towed 1325kg single axle `van with no problems but are now considerring an upgrade and hoping not to have to change the car, car`s staying even if caravan has to remain a single axle!!! thanks to anyone who understands all this

the way i understand it is that the gross weight of the caravan should be no more than 80% of the weight of the vehicle towing it

according to the VX info 1500KG is the Max limit for a 2.2Dti. So you would be 100% ratio. Someone posted on here a little while ago a site that allowed you to select your can and caravan, it told you if it was ok or not. HTH

The safe limit is actually 85% of the gross weight of the towing vehicle providing that the 85% figure is NOT greater than the manufacturers safe towing limit

    http://www.towitall.co.uk/NTTA_law/p.../preparing.htm

A 1500Kg caravan is too heavy to tow safely with a Vectra.

What your caravan weights 2000+ kg? thats well over the 100%. Max for the V6 manual is 1700 I believe. Who posted up the site where you can input your car and caravan details, it tells you everything you need to know then.....

Edit, 1800kg for the estate, 2240kg kerb weight for the car.

Not true, depends on the Vectra. My caravan weighs 1455kg fully ladenand with a Vectra 1.9 CDTi 150, your towing at 94% of the kerb weight of the car.

In the ideal world, 85% of the cars kerbweight is the way to go, but according to the caravan club and other reputable sources, you may tow up to 100% of the cars kerbweight providing it is a well balanced outfit.

The twin axle caravan on this post is too heavy for the 2.2 DTi. You would slog the guts out of it pulling it. A 3.9 V6 CDTi would be the safest bet.

With my caravan, the tow ration has dropped from 94% with the 1.9 to 81% with the 3.0.

I'm not getting into an argument over towing weights Matt, just trying to help a fellow member with info that is available on the web and in the manuals!

Max braked weight for the 2.2DTi is 1500Kg or so Parkers guide says

    http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/...px?deriv=22793

I personally would not want to tow so close to it's limit.

EDIT: Just found this site http://www.cuddles.abelgratis.net/vauxhall.htm So Parkers is wrong!

The table has been compiled from Vx OFFICIAL figures. According to this the 85% figure for a 2.2DTi is 1250Kg.

BTW according to these figures yours should only tow 1410Kg Matt.

Not getting into a argument buddy, sorry if it came across that way.

The 3.0 Signum diesel manual max towing weight is 1700kg's.

The 3.0 Signum diesel Auto is at 1410kg as you have stated, the Vectra 3.0 Diesel estate is a lowely 1200kg's!!!! Even the 1.9 150 auto can tow 1600kg's.

I think it is down to the 3.0's weak auto gearbox.

    Default 3.0 v6 manual ESTATE

The greatest trailer weight possible is behind a 3.0v6 estate at 1800kg. TI tow a twin axel 1300kg display unit with mine and so long as you don't look at the instant MPG you are fine. The combination is very stable however a light flashes on the dashboard if it is a bit wet and you take on white van man as you leave a roundabout on a dual carriageway.
