    Default Temp gauge query

As you know, I've got my newish Sugnum and I'm really pleased with it. Only prob I can see is the temp gauge. Basically on easy motorway work, or cruising along in 6th the gauge either drops right back to the bottom white line or just gets above it.

Earlier on, the ambient temp was indicated as 9.0 degrees, it took nearly 21 miles, pretty much straight onto the motorway, for the gauge to even think about moving. Then it only went up to about 75 or so, before dropping down again.

Around town it's OK, fluctuating between 80 and 90 as I'd expect, but again, get on the open road and it'll drop down to below 75.

Obviously this can't be right and I reckon it is having an adverse affect on the fuel consumption, as it's doing around 37 and that's all. I reckon the gauge and ECU are deciding the engines still cold. There's no smoke at all though, I'm pleased to say, so looks like the DPF is doing it's thing!

    Your thoughts gratefully recieved.

I had the exact same problem on a car a few years ago (non VX) and it was the thermostat. It was broken and stuck open which meant the engine took ages to warm up and the gauge was right down on cold on the motorway. (coolant circulating the whole system and rad instead of releasing coolant into the rad when the engine was warm enough)

I'd be a bit surprised if it was that on a newish signum but you never know, it could have been fitted with a faulty one.

Diesels do take a while to warm up. It shouldn't drop bact to cold again though, it does sound like the thermostat is playing up
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Hmm, A and B roads at even low and moerate speeds it gets up to normal operating temperature, it's when it's cruising at speed on the motorway or on a dual carriageway it drops down.
