Default My laptop will fly out the window soon...

After some advice from you guys that are well versed in I.T. I have a thing keep coming up on my PC, called Winfixer. It opens up as internet pages taking me away from whatever site I am on. No way is it a legitimate file so I cancel the three windows that open everytime. I have virus protection, done scans etc etc but just cant shift it.. anyone seen the same thing? Anyone got any suggestions?

Sorry to be so off topic of C's but it's driving me bananas..

You have spyware/addware mate, see http://www.liutilities.com/products/...rary/winfixer/

May be a bit of a ***** to remove, some are and some are easy. Its not a virus of such so dont panic too much your machine won't die on you. Look for a program called "HijackThis" and use it to detect the registry keys which may respawn the targate file when you delete it. Spyware removers do not always work on this sort of thing so its best to do it manually, however you may need some help from someone in the know about computers, you dont want to go deleting ligit reg keys!!

    Hi R-Man,

I had MASSIVE problems a while back, it was suggested that I try cybertechhelp.com it's a free web site for people with computer problems, it's superb and they sorted me out no problems.........I had tried Adaware but I found that to be all but useless.

The guys at cybertechhelp.com also suggested that I try another virus checker, they suggested Avast and everything has been perfect since.........by the way Avast is also free and very simple to install and it loads up any updates automatically.

If you go onto the site go to Computer help forums then into Cyber Safety and start a new thread and somone will get back to you asap.

I've had winfixer problems for a week, earlier this month. I got rid of the popups by simply doing a system restore on XP (MCE). My restore point was about a week and a half before the problem was noticed. NO MORE POP-UPS!
