    Default 1.9 cdti cambelt

Has anyone had vx change a cambelt kit on the above?

I have been waiting 3 weeks for the part to arrive as they say the kit has not been released yet and none of there branches has ever done one?

On a good note, they are offering a "menu" cambelt job "any vx diesel cambelt kit fitted for £250 all in" as im about to hit the change mileage they have opted to order all the parts of the kit seperately and stick to the original price. should be done next week

That's a lie mate, that engine has been around for 3 yrs in a Vx and many more in Fiat/Alfa, to say they don't have the kit cos it's not available yet is really poor.

I asked about the lifetime of them before I bought my car: The service manager imformed me they'd never had one in for a replacement yet and are supposed to last around 120k miles. That was in February. Sounds like they do last that long then :-)

You must really rack up the miles then!

There are lots of threads on cambelts. PIMM just had his changed on his gsi before the 80k milage due - i think he did it at around 65k - and it had bits missing. Very close escape. My local dealer said all 16V units were changed to 40k, but others have said their dealer said otherwise. Personal choice and peace of mind. I'd get it changed around the 40k mark. But its your car so its your choice.
