    confused Tyres.....

    Hey all...
After some 215/50 R17s in the not too distant future. Local dealer has quoted £127.50 (including 10% discount) for Goodyear Eagle NCT's. WIll need 2 for the front so its a bit pricey.

Any ideas where I can get quality tyres such as Goodyear or Hankooks etc for aroun £100 mark each?

swap straight over to 225/45/17's and you can cut that price right down to around £100 on goodyear eagle F1's...225 is an approved alternative size by VX so no problems awaiting you..

if you want to try online retailers, try www.e-tyres.co.uk or www.blackcircles.co.uk

Andrew, do as Gsi3.2 has said and change over to the 225/45's.
I have done it on my Sri and saved a few quid and a much bigger choice of tyres in that size.
The difference in rolling radius is a few millimetres and makes no difference, apparently it does make aminute difference to your speedo but again I cant say I have noticed any change!
The 225's fit straight onto the 17' rims and is an alternative fit that vauxhall give. The tyre pressures are exactly the same as the 215's.
Are you a bobby, or is that just your username???

I wouldn't pay that much, have a look at conti sport 2's - decent tyres and available for a lot less. Try my local place for a quote then you can haggle on the Wirral for the same price or even drive over to Warrington if the saving is worth it

I will be looking to change the fronts on mine soon. Still on 215/50/17 Good Year Eagles from new and spoken to few people here about changing to 225/45/17s. What I'm wanting to know is how is the ride quality affected. I like the way my sri absorbs bumps but still grips and handles well enough for my driving style (and the wife too...only just like). I know that the newer profile will be better in terms of handling but don't want to fork out loads of beer tokens if it is going to make the ride too harsh. I think on this car I would swing towards comfort as opposed to outright handling and grip. Had 17"s on a focus few years ago (can''t remember the tyre size) and that crashed and shuddered over every bump and pot hole!!. I know that the 225/45/17s will fit but don't want to leave big gap (visually) between tyre and wheel arch. Think the 215/50/17s fill them nicely (apologies to anyone who has heard this from me before). Any thoughts???
