    Default Safety Mode Question

    Hi
I have been driving my 2003 SRI for 2 months now and love it, however recently whilst driving a warning light came on in the taco that showed a Car & Spanner.
After looking in my book it tells me it could be a number of things to do with the gear box area. But if when you turn the ignition off and on again it goes out it is not a problem. It did go out and then a week later it did it again. Any ideas is it going to be expensive???????

the car and spanner DOESN'T always mean it's the gearbox..

What it signifies is that one of the many sensors on the car has detected/experienced a fault and that it has stored an error code...it could be many many varied things and the only real way to find out what it is, is to get the cars codes read by the dealer or someone else with CAN-compatible tools..

    HUMmm!!!

I only ever had cheeeep NORMAL cars prior to the veccy and could FIX them when they broke with a Spanner 'you remember a MANS tool that us Neanderthals made and used all them years ago'.

What Has Happened!!! Fixing cars by plugging them in to a wire and a BOFFIN touching some letters on a keypad to fix it.!!

I am ONLY 33 Years Young and feel like an OLD Codger as time passes me by

LOL.. it's not that bad....i still get my spanners out....

they have just got a whole lot cleverer to help with finding out why they don't work now..even VX will only charge you £45 to give you a full rundown on whats wrong..or an independant may charge you even less..

and if that fails.. hit it with the adjusting stick....

It's a pity that you can't use a spanner to diagnose/fix the spanner warning light...

I could use the 'spanner' to stop the warning light coming on forever, but it may stop other things working and look a bit messy after i have put it through the tacco unit.

    Is that what you mean??????
