    Default Radio display bulbs?

    hi there,
i am new to the site and have been searching for hours to find out if the bulbs on the radio display on my 03 vectra can be changed as one side of the diplay is very dull.

i can only find how to change the full display etc .
    any help appreciated.

They aren't bulbs - they are SMDs (surface mount diodes) so not really replaceable (well you can but it's tricky). They should rarely blow as they are such low current so maybe due to something else?

To know for sure, you could always pop the display out and see if all the diodes are lit up and if there is possibly a loose connection to the display? I'm not sure if that's possible with the type of connector (having a loose connection), I'm not sure.

I'd expect you'd need to remove the rear cover to see the diodes. Somebody's had theirs apart on here - just trying to recall who it was. Think they even did a How 2. One sec......

Here we go. It's not clear as to whether you can see the diodes separately from the display, but maybe just worth whipping out the display to make sure the connector is seated fully home. If it is, then as above probably easier to just get one off ebay and replace it.

    Result!!

You learn something new every day! I thought all the Vectra C displays had no bulbs behind, just all SMDs. Obviously not on the two line display! Although thinking about it, it's probably the same screen that was in the B, hence it not being SMDs.

Anyway, at least you found the problem and it's easily fixed.

what would happen if different coloured bulbs were used?

what would the effect on the screen be?

    Err, it'd change colour?

The normal bulbs are white, the display is orange so you'd end up with whatever the mix of a different colour bulb and the display colour gave you. Before you ask exactly what the colour would be, no idea - one to try and see.
