Default Engine oil & VX dealers

Question: Is it acceptable for a Vectra CDTI 120 HATCH 2004 to use semi 10w 40 as installed by by local main dealer during recent service. They say it is but i can't see semi 10w 40 on the VX approved list.

Is the dealer trying to encourage me to return every 10k rather than 20k for LL fully synthetic?

Notice the car gives a puff of blue smoke on cold start (clears immediately and no obvious oil use) where as when the car had fully synthetic it didn't.

    Advice appreciated.

they shold have used the 5w30 oil, as it's what is needed for the longer drain intervals and provides superoir engine protection .. they used the 10W40 for one reason onlyy.. ITS CHEAP and they can make more money on it.. If your car is an auto then they MUST use 5w30 no matter what the drain interval.. but to say that using the 10w40 is okay isn't really correct..

I had same problem. I returned the car, had it flushed and 5w30 fully synthetic put in free OC.

    Default Update

Local friendly main dealer sheepishly acknowledged error and replaced with fully synthetic LL oil plus filter FOC.

    Default There's more....

The best bit is (apart from using the wrong oil) that during the original service they urged me to replace the rear brake pads because they were 85% worn (£80 to you sir!). Had a look myself and got a local garage to offer an opinion.....the result being that the rear pads are less than 50% worn!! So, do you think i'll be using local Vx dealer again?

Yep, exactly the same for me!

Not surprising though since it was a free service due to a balls up during the original sale.
