    Default Error Code P0715

I know the definition of this code....
.. and what it can mean.

But, I've no coolant loss, and the Gearbox oil is a brown colour, not pink.
It's smells burnt and smelly. What the hell is going on?

Do you think it's worth a gearbox oil change, and if so, how much ATF does the Auto Gearbox take?
Slightly more importantly, where are the Drain, fill, and Level plugs on the box?

    Cheers.

    Matt

right, brown and smelling burnt is the fluid telling you the internal brake bands ( clutch plates) are shot..the only real cure is replacement of those components or the entire box ( i have a workshop manual for it if it's needed which i can email)..changing the fluid will mask the problem, but you'll still have a sick gearbox..it really needs some serious work done....if however it's just a really deep red then a change of fluid will normally help.. but if it's giving an error code then my money is on the bands..

drain plug is on the bottom on it's edge along the bellhousing seam it's a big (19mm) bolt.. undo and drain fluid into a poundland washing up bowl....measure how much came out with a poundland kitchen measuring jug..the filler bolt is on top..and the level dipstick is the small green stalk secured with a 13mm bolt of the front of the dipstick...

I'm going to PM you for your email addy to send you some relevant files.showing their location..

    Thanks Mark,

Yep, there is definatly no red in there... just good ol' brown.
think is, the light came on a while ago and I've been limping around in it for a week or so now... (had no other choice sadly, as I was 300Miles from home!)
It trys to pull away in 5th from a standing start... could that have something to do with the "browness" of the oil?

I thought maybe I've burnt something trying to pull away in fifth would have ballsed the oil up... but like you say it could just fix it for a bit.

I Assume this speed sensor turbine wotsit is actually inside the G/Box?

    Thanks for sending those Details.

    Cheers.

    Matt

There is a field remedy E0001650 for that error code but no exactly the symptoms you are indicating...

AF23/33 transmission - No driving torque because of cooling water in transmission oil
    Models: Engines: Option:
    Vectra-C 2002...2004,Signum 2003...2004 Z22SE| Z32SE| Y22DTR,Z22YH| Z32SE| Y22DTR AF23/33 Transmission
Complaint: Loss of the transmission functionality in isolated cases. The following symptoms may occur occasionally: - failure codes P0700, P0715 or P0720 set - slight loss of cooling water - sediments in coolant expansion tank
Cause: Improper function of the sealring at the oil cooler conncetion. This can cause the penetration of a little quantity of cooling fluid into transmission oil.
Production: An improved oil cooler/radiator has been introduced in production as of VIN W0L0ZCF3541042598 (Rüsselsheim) and VIN W0L0ZCF6848035197 (Ellesmereport).

    Remedy:
In case of customer complaint proceed as follows:
If only DTC P0700, P0715 or P0720 is stored please carry out TSB 1685.
Open the black cover of the valve body on the transmission housing carefully. If water and/or white sediments are found in the cover the transmission has to be replaced together with the oil cooler/radiator assembly.

You did say you have no coolant loss though, Hmmmm.... I believe the sensor is in the box, do you have warranty?

First thing I would do is change that oil and see if that improves the situation, as GSI said tho, this is a plaster...

Hi Matt, unfortunately that's not the only reason you could get a 0715. Do you have warranty?

Get that oil changed, reset fault and road test...

    Hello,

No only the 3 Month standard one. Thankfully I've only had the car one month.
So I'm trying to get them to take it back.

I'll be doing the Oil this weekend.

    Cheers.

    Matt

Spanner Light, Limp Mode, and Emissions light. Now this Error on the Code reader.
Engine starts and Idles fine, but a few seconds (15 maybe) the spanner light comes on. Emissions light does not go out.
Engine Temp, if fine, but Fuel Ec is down slightly, but I guess that is the Limp "wrist" mode.

Idles, afine and the Engine as it is, is fine.
It revs to the redline when in "N".

    Cheers.

    Matt
