    Default Web site

Ok everyone I am after a bit of advice, I have just purchased the following domains

    www.pgpictures.co.uk and www.pgpictures.com

I am looking at putting some of my pictures (or maybe all) I have taken on the sight with a view to hopefully selling some.

I have a quick question I am using a 20" widescreen monitor and while the web page goes all the way across the actual page bit seems to be on the left hope that makes sense. I am using a easy site builder thing provided by the domain company.

Any ideas?? Also do you think it's worth me bothering??

    Hi Perry,

Whilst I am no 'web designer' and there are others on here that are much better qualified, the way round this issue for me was to put everything inside a table.

So... if you start with a blank page. Insert a table (which you can center in the middle, left or right hand side of the page).

Then put everthing you want inside the table. This means that your web page will always appear to be in the middle of the screen.

    Hope that helps...

You have an outer table that is set to 100% but the inner table which contains everything is set to 720 pixels.

Get yourself a copy of FireFox and the WebDeveloper plugin
    http://chrispederick.com/work/web-developer/
You will then be able to see the outlines of all the parts of the pages. Opera will probably have a stylesheet that does similar and I think MS do a similar plugin for IE7.

What you are looking to do is adjust the align from left to center
It is not as simple as that, but thats the principle

What screen resolution are you using?

    My own 15" TFT monitor has 1280 x 1024
I still use a width of 800 on my own websites as the vast majority of visitors are at this or lower (due to laptops, etc)
However, it has been slowly been increasing over the last 18 months that I might consider updating to 1024 from the end of this year

If you are designing a website for you and yourself alone, then you can do what ever you like!
You can even keep out unwanted visitors with network passwords

As for the domain names, the principle you have used is normal practice for commercial operations, to prevent copyright breaches (passing off, etc)
If you are intending to become a commercial concern, then I recommend you also obtain the .net domain name, so that you have all 3 main ones

You will need some form of a hosting package to get the site online.

When you purchased the domain names, did they come with any hosting?.

If not, theres a few that we here could recommend, depending on your requirements.

The problem is the files and hosting are not likely to be on the same server, so either frames or frameset (which are not DDA compliant), popup, or a simple redirect will be required

However, some webhosts (not pointing any elbows) do offer gallery software as part of their hosting, so this eliminates the need for redirecting, and puts all the website files and domain name, eMail, and any database, all in the one place

I used to have all kinds of files and so on, spread over all kinds of websites
However, some have their own adverts and you have no control over them
Why should they make money on the back of your material!
