    Angry The nightmare continues....

Melodramatic title I know but get seriously pee'd off now.
    Following these -

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27252

I took car back to VX today in limp mode, they plug tech 2 in and tell me it requires a new fuel rail £844 for the part £1,009 fitted.

They have agreed to deduct the cost of the Boost Pressure Sensor fitted on Tuesday as a good will gesture, but still maintain it was required and following a call to VX who agreed to be 50% (car out of warranty so better than a smack in the teeth). I still will have to pay £532, not to mention the £333 I've spent on this problem so far.

    Best bit yet to come........

Driving away from the dealers got about 2 miles car looses all power (different to usual problem) engine management light comes on (not spanner as usual). Take it straight back tech 2 shows problem with accelerator.Never happened before and has to be a result of something they've done or amazing co-incidence.

End Result I'm in a Corsa they are going to contact VX and go through checking procedures and have advised me I'm not likely to get it back 'til after weekend.

If I listed the problems I've had since getting the car people wouldn't believe me.

Warning to those with boxes or considering purchasing them beware, I'm convinced now its a problem with the fuel rail it's a likely cause. Before people have a go I know theres people who have done many miles wilth them and had no problem, but mine won't be going back near the car.

    Rant Over.

Jesus, sorry to hear about your problems mate.

The more i hear about these tuning boxes the more i dislike them! Thankfully they dont make one for the 2.2 DTi, so i cant have one!!

    Hope you get sorted mate.

I could be wrong here, but, I read tuning boxes just block a signal to the ecu to fool it in to over fueling, i.e you never get off choke in other words.

nearly VV..the 'box' fools the fuel rail pressure sensor by a resistor lowering the value of voltage it sends back to the ecu, so the ecu makes the high pressure pump run harder..thats how it gives more fuel..

I'm a firm believer that Manufacturers spend millions making their engines as reliable as possible. To do this they have to reach a compromise re power/mpg etc etc.

You start messing with this at your peril. Many get away with it..with my luck, I certainly wouldn't!

dont know if its already been done but someone should start a pole abouts car that have encountered problems after the tuning box has been fitted, still think that when my car needed new injectors it had something to do with box.

Of course they do, that's their job. Engine hardware, software and calibration developers walk several tight ropes wrt to power, fuel consumption, durability, emissions, driveability, service interval etc etc the list goes on.

And in fairness, 'toothless Bob' down the road probably doesn't do as much development but claims to know these engines 'inside and out' and knows what can be done safely - yeah right...........

I wouldn't fit a box to my CDTi (if I had one) that's for sure.
