Default Which Lane Do You Use In Rush Hour

Since starting a new job 3 months ago I have been travelling the north western corner of the M25 from the M1 round to the M4 lately and mostly in the mornings.
I started off as I MUST BE PROGRESSING AS MUCH AS POSS and would be straight out into the outside lane as quick as possible sitting on the bumper of the car infront constantly jumping up & down on the brake pedal, clutch and accelorator. If my lane became stationary I felt the urgent need of getting into the middle lane as my lane isn't moving. I'd get to work absolutly wound up with feet & legs feelng like I've walked 5 miles.
I then started to realise there was a jucntion I could hop off and back on at one jucntion along & it was this traffic entering casuing huge hold ups through people doing as I did by coming off the slip road & having the need to get to the outside lane as quickly as possible before any lane exceeds 10 mph.

I now enter a start stopping motorway at the latest possible or from slip lane 1 of a 2 lane slip way. It's quite funny, you watch people diving into a space they've seen appear and cut across the chevrons whilst I pass behind them & clear another 30 or so car lengths.
I then stay in th N/S lane for probably 80% of my journey constantly under taking people along with the lorries. I exit at my junction and am usually over taken by people exceeding the speed limit who I've earlier passed on the inside as they were so busy taking paint samples of the car infront. I then arrive at work untense as I haven't been getting frustrated of the start stop traffic and having to judge gaps to dive into.

It stands to reason really, most people on their way to work are in their car on their own & couldn't care less about anyone else and so sit bumper to bumper in the fast lane because they have no reason to move over . As soon as the next one squeezes out of the middle lane into the fast lane someone in the fast lane touches their brakes and everyone else who's sittng on their bumper starts jumpng on theirs.
Driving amongst the lorries there is a hell of a lot more braking distances left and so a lot more distance is travelled if & when coming to a stop.

I now actually enjoy the drive as I find it so amusing I can now sit back watching how mad people in the outside lane behave in rush hour and laugh at how little progress they make.

At least on the M25 where the traffic is start stop it is acceptable to pass on the near side but I used to travel up the M1 and what really used to annoy me was people having only been up for 30 minutes or so and falling into a day dream in the outside lane doing 60mph but it wouldn't be just the one, it would be one after the other after the other as none of them have realised the car infront has slowed down gradually and so have they so they all just sit there merrily doing silly mph with no concerns about moving over

    I use the empty lane

Oh forgot, don't live down there anymore. That's why I moved away. Got fed up with sititng on the M25 for 2 hours or more each trip so I changed my job and got a life, now I spend my time here.

    Perhaps I should move back

When i first started driving i would weave in and out of lanes trying to make the maximum progress in the shortest time, I have now cammed down a bit though and just sit in the fast lane going at the same speed as the car in front until its clear then i plant it, I just can't resist.

I always find that when your in traffic though the inside lane moves quicker because it isn't full of ******s tailgating each other.

I find if the traffic is really built up and you are doing 10mph (ish) then the inside lane wins

None of the poll, I find the inner lane moves quicker myself, probably due to ppl leaving at the junctions, but tbh, IDGAF really, I'm an old fart whose watching how things are going and can't wait to leave before the law of glancing comes in, anyone found not looking at their own feet will be in breach of section 2112 of Blairdom.

Inside Lane of the M25 every time, it always sem's to keep moving at a steady pace, rahter than the start stop of the other 2/3 lanes. You may not gain anything, and over 5 miles the outer lanes might be quicker, but in a 44t truck, playing start stop all the time is a right pain, so i would rather do 10mph for 5 miles consitently, than 20mph, then stop, then 10, then stop etc etc....

whichever lane is the least busy and keeps moving, i just relax and drive slower, you cant get anywhere so I dont stress trying. unable to vote in your poll because the options are totally weighted in favor of your preference.
