Default Help 150CDTI - Power problem

    All

Please help me understand what has gone wrong here.

Car is an 04 plate SRI CDTI 150bhp with 46k on the clock.

Travelling home tonight, plenty of overtaking when started to hear a tick-tick-tick sound from the engine - just as I was overtaking a car. It's the kind of noise that I would have recognised from a car that had blown the exhaust near the manifold. As I registered the ticking sound, the car lost loads of power and I had to pull back in.

Pulled over and lifted the bonnet, no apparent problems as all except that the car has very reduced power - the turbo is not spinning as there is no whistle etc.

Lifting the bonnet when home, got my dad to rev the engine whilst I looked under the car and in the engine bay and there seems to be exhaust fumes coming from the area indicated from the green line shown below on the pic. There is also what looks like a pipe with a metal sheething around it that is vibrating in tempo with the engine revs.

Any ideas of what has happened?

Just nipped out to the car and had a looksie.
The clamp that holds the hose on is one of those, ready to fail clip on clamps.
If that is loose, then put a worm drive hose clamp on it. That should sort it.

    Hope this helps

bang on, dealer told me today that the pipe had corroded and broken off ...so no backpressure for the turbo.

£196 to fix it and should be back tomorrow.

Was surprised that it has worn so quicky at 46k miles???
