    Default Smelly Pants

From a current sky news article...

I saw this on the news this morning. It follows the invention of new "pong proof" pants. Tiny fragments of silver are woven into the underpants to help stop bacteria multiplying.

    STINKY PANTS - YOUR VIEWS

With the news that stinky pants could become a thing of the past, we want to know your levels of clothes hygiene.

We asked you whether you still the student of old? Do you still wear your pants, shirts or socks more than once a week before laundry day?

Or will the new "pong proof pants" be a waste of time for you due to your high level of hygiene?

Thanks for your emails. Here is a selection:

    --------------

I discovered that I can get another seven days out of my underpants if I turn them inside out.
    Paul

    --------------

The Brits are known as the great un-washed (shame on you!). I have sat on Tubes and nearly passed out from the dreadful odours around me. I hate to think I was not only smelling dirty bodies, but dirty pants too! Gross!
    Janet, CT, USA

    --------------

I wear the same pair of pants for four days. Day 1 on the correct way, day 2 back to front, day 3 inside out and day 4 inside out and back to front therefore ensuring clean cloth at the front each day.
    Colin Lewis, Warrington, Cheshire

    --------------

I can't believe what I am reading, people wearing pants/socks for more than one day? This is disgusting, underwear should be changed at least once a day twice if you are going out in the evening after a shower. Do these people shower once a week or once a month also?
    Mark Eeles, Cheshire

    --------------

I throw mine at the wall, if they stick, get a clean pair, if not, put em back on.
    Joe, Fort Lauderdale, USA

    --------------

I think it's disgusting that people don't change there underware once or twice a day. No wonder there are so many diseases going around these days, there is no excuse for being minging.
    Elizabeth

    --------------

I don't know what all the fuss is about - I manage to get about four weeks out of a set of underpants and nearly a month from my socks.
Ken Kempen Kommetjie, Cape Town, South Africa

    --------------

Anyone who wears underwear for more than one day needs a crash course in hygiene from their GP.
    ANON

    --------------

I have found a solution to the dirty, smelly socks and pants problem - that is not to bother wearing either. I find my laundry basket lighter and the consequent savings on underwear benefit my bank balance.
    Peter, Harlow

    --------------

I have cut the labels off my pants so they can be worn inside out on their second day of use without anyone knowing.
    Mark Bright, Epsom

    --------------

My pants and socks are changed once a fortnight whether they need it or not.
    ANON

    --------------

I believe that pants and socks should be changed at least once, if not twice-a-day. I grew up with two brothers, and to think back to the stench that was often emitted from their wash bin is horrible. Fresh, sweet smelling pants and socks all the way for me.
    Gareth, Doncaster

    --------------

Of course this all depends on the activities and habits of the occu-pant. (Sorry) If the body is always carefully washed before climbing into them, and is always cleaned meticulously after toilet activities, then, yes they can be stretched to several wearings. Otherwise no.
    Jon, Tel Aviv

    --------------

I still treat my pants and socks the way I did when I was a student - pants three days and socks kept on until they stink. It drives my wife mad.
    Patrick W, Birmingham

    --------------

On the matter of pants I always like to wear a fresh pair every day. But socks I can wear for days before changing them. I can't stand wearing shirts more than one day. Even if these new Super pants do what they say they do I doubt I'd use them. It's easier just to wash normal pants. I must admit that sometimes when I've been too lazy to put a wash on (I am a student after all) I've worn a pair of pants for four or five days. Once I went a week without a shower. But in the end wearing the same clothes more than one day is mainly due to laziness.

    --------------

My brother insists on wearing his dirty pants for weeks on end. When he is finished with them he hides them through a gap in the bath. My mum once found a whole pile of filthy pants.

    --------------

Mine are changed morning and evening and sometimes in between. I can't understand how someone can wear them twice.
    Semelie, Birmingham

    --------------

Having just graduated in the last year, I admit that my socks may go two wears without washing. However not washing pants after you have worn them once is unthinkable - no matter how much silver is weaved into them. I suppose I have adjusted to working life well.
    Liz Attwell, Kent

    --------------

To be honest I don't know what the problem is in not washing your gruds. I only own one pair of pants and simply let them get washed in the shower with the rest of me.
    Dodge, Glasgow

    --------------

I would dump any boyfriend of mine if I found out he wore the same pants twice or wore them inside out!
    Hayley

    --------------

Dirty pants and socks - I love them just the sweet smell when you finally get to take them off!
    Rik, Halstead

    --------------

I dont wear pants anyway so it doesnt really matter to me. When will they invent trousers or jeans using the same material though?
    Andy, Manchester

    --------------

Who 'invented' this idea, a week-long knicker wearing lazy man no doubt. The mere thought makes me feel sick.
    Helen

    --------------

Personally, I could never wear my underwear if they smell, but I wash regularly (showering twice a day on average) and always clean thoroughly when I've been to the toilet - so I would have to wear them for days on end to have them stinking. Maybe the people who think 'extended wearing' is so bad should make more of an effort with cleaning themselves!
