i was having problems with the running on my 2.0dti sig and it was a couple of perished rubber conectors on the vacuums. i also changed to shell extra diesel from supermarket fuel based on recommendations on this site and the car is getting better and better. Have a good check of the rubbers as even the smallest hole will cause problems. if in doubt change them any way as thyre inexpensive and its one less thing to worry about

If u have a split in your vac hoses u can sometimes agitate it by holding down the brake pedal depleting the air in the servo whilst the vacuum servo thingy cant replace it fast enuff, this will bring on the EML, had 2 cars do this to me now.

My spanner light has come on twice in the last three weeks, usually when accelerating at about 70 mph. I pull over and stop, switch off, switch on again, spanner light goes out. The hoses seemed fine, any other ideas?

thats exactly what mine was doing,i'd suggest checking the hoses again. there are two vacuum switch type arrangements fixed to the front panel near to the front of the battery cover. they both have two vacuum pipes,i found that on one of them both the rubber conectors were perished, i changed these with some rubber pipe from a motor factors for 20 pence and it sorted it.
