Default My 120 CDTI has more power than Spoons' 150...Why?

Spoons and I were comparing torque graphs today. I have a 1.9 (120) CDTI with a 888 Remap. He has the same but started with the 150BHP engine. So 8valve vs 16valve.

I have 169 BHP with my 888 remap and 307.9 Torques.

Spoons has 189 (ish BHP) but less torque with a 888 remap.

We were both surprised and wondered why. Do any knowledgable types know?

    PS

We both have more torque and BHP that the BTCC

    Am I missing something?

I know I haven't done degree maths for a while but aren't 169 and 189 different numbers? In the order of 20?

I'm not an expert and others may correct me but I believe they deliberately map lower torque on the 150's remaps as they could have the potential to rip the transmission to bits, or put unnecessary strain on the drive chain. Think it's designed in.

I was told back in the day when petrol cars were changing from 8v to 16v that 8 valves on the hole give better torque, and 16 valves have better bhp. This might be the case in diesels as well, the 120 will also be de tuned a little to make people pay more for a 150? Does that make sense?

It was true in the Cavalier SRi 130 i had. It had more torque than my m8's 16v redtop but he had 136bhp
8v engines pull from lower in the rev range too, 16v engines don't give full chat until near 4000 rpm. Diesels are slightly different but the principle is the same.

I did speak to 888 about this when i had mine done, they had kept the torque figures down because they experience too much shaking of the car at higher rpm. They decided the ride was too rough with the higher torque curve

Have you got more than 322lbftat the road wheel and around 376lbft at the fly?

That's what the 16v can do but the 888 remap usually sees around 290-300lbft at the fly.
