SRI / GSI Grille Question

Hi everyone

Just changed my stock grille for a SRI/GSI grille .... noticed that there was an extra plastic piece screwed on to the old grille by the cold air intake . May act as some kind of weather shield?

I have not replaced the extra plastic piece ... what have other's done? what is this piece of plastic for, what is the effect of removing it? more chance of rain etc getting onto the air filter?

Advice needed please

does this plastic piece come as standard on the SRI/GSI ? could anyone please post close up photo?

i also had thispeice on my 2.2dti signum

i didnt put it back when i fitted the irmscher grille,

no problems in over a year,

Didn't notice it when I swapped my standard for an Irmscher Grill. I've not noticed anything detrimental since. I'd be interested as well!

The piece of plastic looked like it was shielding the oblong cold air intake behind the grille ... i'm just a bit worried incase and water or dust would bet sucked up into the filter ....

Would removing this (more air) affect performance of the 1.9CDTi ?

I don't know what it does, but I refitted it.

Took it off when my grille was fitted. No problems.

Not a brill photo because of the sun and the fact I took it with my phone, but here it is. It does seem to cover the air intake. To stop water getting in, I guess.

Doh! I've just realised that you've all got diesels!! (which will explain why mine doesn't have one).
