what happens if i've lost my drivers license?

no......not me, my brother!! he's coming along to the brands hatch vxr track day today and he can't find either parts of his drivers license.

why he left it until this morning i don't know but he's been looking for the past hour with no joy.

can the guys down at brands hatch call up the dvla and ask them to confirm that his license is clean? i know i've had this done once before when i rented a van without the paper bit of my license.

i've told him to call the dvla and see if they can fax him a temporary license, anyone heard of them doing anything like this?

he's also going to call brands hatch and see if they have the facility of calling the dvla to check license records.

Harry, phone Brands Hatch now, get their fax number, then phone the DVLA, get them to fax over details of your brother's licence. its costs about 12 quid to do it. Check Brands will accept this first though.

I had to do the same when I was driving at Millbrook proving ground with work.

I was not told about bringing my license, they rang up DVLA and it all got sorted over the phone without issue and cost nothing. They said it happens a lot.

Don't know if Brands Hatch are different to Millbrook wrt this though.

I also had a fax driving detail when I hired a car in Luxembourg and the counter staff insisted on seeing a license, even though I'm on their computer as a regular hirer and they already have all my details. In fact I am a club card holder - but it meant nothing to them on that day. Normally I don't need anything to get the keys. I think it cost about £10.

he's called the dvla and they only fax out copies to other countries, not within the uk.

for the uk there is a premium rate number that companies can call up. so he's just going to confirm with brands whether they will accept that method, i don't think they should have an issue with it.
