Cambelt Scare

Monday this week i had my cambelt changed for the first time(70,000

). When i went to collect the car i spoke to the chap at the garage and he expressed how lucky i have been. He showed me the old belt and it had tiny cracks going across the whole belt all around it and in one purticular spot there was a chunk missing or taken out of the belt(how can this happen). The tensioners were a little tired to, one of them could hardly turn and the bearings were nacked.

Anyway iam glad the job have been done now so i suggest anyone thinking about there cambelt not to wait around but just get it booked in and replaced as soon as possible.

It was not needed so i left it. I feel sometimes you can go on and on.

i thought i was cutting it close, i had mine changed at 50,000

I had a Cavalier which saved me by w*****g the water pump out, when the new pump was fitted they did the belt as well, he showed me it and it had a hole the size of a 5p bit right in the centre of it, reckoned it would have come apart in a matter of days.

Surprised so many of you guys wait till you's reach these high milage figures. I was told that Vauxhall had reduced the limit to 40,000 miles for safety. I believe it was even in the national papers some 2-3 years ago. Keep safe guys and change it at 40k.
