Default Part of the K&N crowd

    Hi guys,

just been out, while it isn't raining , to do the airbox mod and replace paper filter with K&N!!

    Here are some obligatory pics...

removed the plastic cover and gave a quick vacuum out...

    inserted shiny new air filter...

Took the battery off for 30 mins, then took it for a spin...felt bit livelier lower down and more spritely at top, (maybe a placebo effect though).

Will have to see if it improves my mpg, although I was putting my foot down a bit and the comp still said it was doing 31mpg good times!!

I would stick with paper as well, it has been well stated that the filter Vx uses lets through 50% more air than the engine needs, so why replace? A mesh filter with larger holes is obviously going to let more **** through, have a read here and save your money

    http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest3.htm

Read the article and Just look at the pictures near the bottom over just 500 miles, do you want that in your engine? before anyone says it the guy is an enthusiast like us and has decided to tell it like it is. Dont believe the marketing hype thats what I say, even although I fell for it many moons ago with my Renault 19 16v.

I have mixed thoughts about performance air filters. I have a K&N panel filter in the A3 2.0T, whether it makes adifference I don't really know. but I have had the car serviced today and removed the Courtenay filter and fitted a new Vauxhall standard filter.

Appears to drive nicer. Do you reckon a spell of disconnecting the ECU really works? Again I am not so sure.

I can't comment on whether disconnecting works as I never drove it after I changed the filter and removed the cover, but before I disconnected and reset..if that makes sense?

If they do not make a huge difference to the performance they deffernitly make a nicer sound under load.
