Computer help required

Hi, I cannot start up computer properly. Gets as far as the log in screen without actually having the log in facility as an option, just a nice blue screen with a little windows xp motif. Have no copy of xp so I don't know admin code. Someone put it on for me a couple of years ago and now they've moved thanks in advance as usual.
Don't want to clear everything as I have photos of kids on there. And yes I will back them up if I get through to it.

Press F8 at startup to get to the windows advanced options menu.
Choose "Last known good" and see if it helps ...

you could go in via 'safe mode' f8 or f12 when it is booting up cant remember which one and change the admin pass from there or back your stuff up

if still no joy drop me a pm as i have an admin hack for xp

If its just a blue windows backdrop thats coming up it could be that explorer isn't initialising properly. If so then try the following

When the backdrop screen comes up
Press CTRL - ALT - DELETE
If the Task Manager Button is available click that
Click on File
Click on New Task (Run)
Type explorer in the white box which appears
Click OK
That should launch windows explorer - at that point back up everything on the machine and get someone to rebuild it.
