    Default Tracking Devices

There is a sticker on my Vectra saying there is a tracking device fitted, not sure if it was factory fit or if its not there anymore, but hey ho.

What are the best ones and do they cost a bomb per month to have?

People started fitting tracking system fitted stickers years ago to deter theives. Why I do not know as from a vehicle security profesionals point of view they are supposed to be descreet to allow police to catch them or retreive the car. If I was a dumb theif & stole a car with a tracking system advertised I would be ripping the car apart looking for it and then when one can't be found the car would be in pieces whe/if it is ever found. If I was a clued up theif I'd see that sticker as a deterant & be well away knowing there isn't one fitted.

An autoelectrician should be able to confirm if the car is indeed fitted within 30 minutes, so would be £20 well spent

As for fitting them, would you really want your car back after its been dinged by a car thief?
Most people who get them back sell it as quick as possible as their car has been "interfered with"!

There is a cheap version of tracking device using a 'pay as you go' mobile. Hidden with charger somewhere in the car, switched on and silent. You can then track the phone if necessary.

Probably not as good, or as accurate as the proper kit, but .......

You could go for a Meta GPA-800 like i have. Pay & Go VOda sim in the unit rigged up to the alram siren in the boot so if alarm goes it rings my phone. Also can text the car and get Ignition On / Off, Speed In Kph / BAttery Voltage / Temp and the Lat & Longtitude of the car which can be typed in Mappoint or something.

You can add remote immobiliser (Stop car starting via text) and a disuation sequence (spelling) so if you suspect someone is hovering near the car you can again text it and it will trigger whatever you have connected it to like Flashing light / extra siren / recordable speaker.

Cost a couple of hundred i think but no ongoing subscription i can view the credit and top up online!

Not quite as good as RAC but not bad.

At the moment i have this and a Asset Management tracker inside so i can view live movement on mapping (We sell these and i have this one on test) can even get a map on my phone which is a posey toy
