Brake Dust

What the hell are they putting into the brake pads nowadays. Every week I have to get down on my knees and clean the alloys that are thick with the stuff. Same goes with the Irmcher quad pipes, black every week (for wise guys - not with brake dust!!) again have to scrub the pipes with scouring powder to get them back to chrome look again.

Any body else have this problem with the tail pipes in particular and is there anything I can put on them to slow down the **** build up etc.

Advances in technology, legal requirements, and environmentally sensitive products are causing this...

Brake pads and discs are now larger than they were 10 years ago
Also most cars now have open alloys, compared to 10 years ago when they were quite rare and most cars have steel wheels (black)

Exhaust gas temperatures are also higher, which results in any objects impacting the exhaust having an increased chance of combustion
Furthermore, the tail sections are alloy and show the dirt easier, compared to more basic exhausts

I used to clean my alloy wheels once a month, and the irmscher sports silencer once every two months, on my previous Vectra B
However, I never needed to clean the exhaust on my Mondeo, and the brake dirt on the alloys was much less too

I've done near on 20K miles on Vectra C in 6 months, and cleaned the alloys twice, and the rear alloy exhausts just once

I Just Put EBC Green Stuff Pads on each corner, they advertise 80 -90% less Brake dust on your alloys,

as for the tail pipe, i brought some cheap stainless steel cleaner wipes from Wilkinsons, they work a treat.
