Default A quick tyre question please!

I have a standard 3.0cdti signum with standard wheels and 215/50/17 /91w tyres on, will I be able to fit 225/50/17 onto the origional rim?

    Many thanks!

    Adam

There seems to be a lot of debate as to whether the 3.0 V6 CDTi should be fitted with Extra Load tyres (as it does from the factory). 91W are Standard load. Have a read of this: http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=25832

    Hey,

Cool thanks for the links guys.
I'm going for some 225-45-17 rated at 98w (Pirelli pzero) so looks like they should be ok!

    Cheers!

Deffo be ok with them at 98W, not sure about 225/50's though. usually go for 225/45....
There have been loads of threads on this very subject, might be worth a search....

The "50" part is actually a percentage of the width I belive and is not an actual measurement in mm. Going for 225/50's would throw your speedo out too much. 225/45 keeps the diameter of the tyre as close to the original as possible.

Not if you go to 225's it isnt. You have to drop the profile to 45's to keep a similar tyre diameter

The manual also states that 22/45/17 is the alternative tyre size

They should be fine. I believe you'd also be fine with 95 load rating on 17s. 225/50/17 is not a profile recommended by Vx, so best not to for insurance purposes. Also a 225/50 would have an even bigger sidewall than a 215/50 as the 50 is a percentage of the width of the tire - your handling would suffer a bit due to the larger sidewall. With 225/45 you'll find a much greater choice of tyres available and also a bit cheaper as it's a much more common size.

hehe sorry I think peeps read by thread before I edited it!

I will be going for 225-45, I called black tyres who suggested that changing the ratio would mean my car would spit the gearbox out the back as it was changing the rolling radius to much, so I had a little chuckle at that rather extreme response!!!

I'll be ordering some 225-45's online later!
