Default Speed bumps - creaky front suspension?

    Hi all,

At certain speeds and conditions (but most of the time) I get a creaking from the front suspension as I 'land' on the other side of a speed hump. It creaks in sync with the bounce of the car, so I'm guessing it's a suspension thing. After a couple of humps, however, it seems to die down. Where I park my car at work, there's a speed hump literally ten yards away, so is it just that the suspension needs warming up or something, or could something do with oiling?

Try oiling the anti roll bar links. The bits that attach the anti roll bar to the suspension arms. They were a weak point on the astra mk4. Also quite cheap and easy to replace. Is it worse in cold weather? Mine was on my astra.

Mine's done it since I had the car.

    I think it's normal.

The dealer couldn't find a fault (which is no surprise lol)

Nah, there's no fault. It's just a bit creaky and probably needs a bit of oiling

    Thumbs up

    Hi Adam,

I noticed your first problem post - with the 'box'.

Can you not take the car back to the garage & have this investigated also? These type of things need a good investigation to get the right diagnosis.

As for the clunk - it may be one of many things - broken spring - worn tie bar bushes etc etc. I wouldnt be putting up with all these faults - even if it is a used car.

Sounds like a Spring mod is needed....basicaly the problem is that the front spings don`t seat down right on the "cups" and the springs when deformed they twist back and foward....the mod is basicaly the addition of rubber covers for the springs end. They are cheap on VX dealers as far as I know.

Was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem - it seems to be quite common.

Spray everything that moves under the wheel arches a spray with a light oil. See if it helps. Also is it worse when the wheels go over the bump at the same time or if you approach from an angle so one wheel goes over it first?

Don't oil rubber bushes. The oil will degrade the rubber. If you need to lubricate them, use silicon spray.

Does sound like anti-roll bar bushes to me too.
