    Default No Instruments or Radio?

I experienced a really strange fault today?

Got in the car as usual to come home, normally when you get in the car, the central display lights up to greet you with displaying the outside air temperature and date/time? However this was off

Started the car, Car started normally, then I noticed no Tachometer or fuel readings, no radio, no central display indication no nothing??? But engine was running fine?

I switched on the lights to see if that would make the display come on and everything came back on

Got home and I checked fuses, and relays for sitting etc. Non were loose.

I read somewhere this could be due to an ABS plug or CIM module plug?

If this is the case where is the sim module plug to be found so I can check that for tightness?

Not managed to make this happen again yet

    Paul

CIM module is inside the steering column.

Could that be a possible cause to my symptoms as explained?

Or another question is? Is the air temperature sensor have to be registered to the CAM bus? because the only recent change was due to front end accident with a badger, I had to have all the front of the car replaced i.e. new front bumper, radiators and grill including this air sensor, as it was displaying -40 deg C when it was broken lol

Could be related. I remember Mark (GSi3.2) telling me the other day that he went to start his car the other day and hadn't reconnected his fogs and ATS after taking his bumper off, and the dash lit up with warnings! - opposite to yours though! Whether it was the fogs, ATS or both that caused the problem isn't clear.

Given what you've just said about the front-end damage, I'd check your fogs and ATS first. They would have had no need to fiddle around with the CIM.

    Off course silly me

Yes that s now displaying the correct reading, but does it still require a Tech 2 to register that unit correctly to the ECU? as they have replaced it? or I would gues its just a passive resistance device, but I could be wrong bearing in mind the car was repaired at a repair centre and not a VX dealer, so I doubt it very much they would have tech 2 it?

I had a similar problem a few months ago, started car and noticed central display not lit, didn't notice rev counter etc...but turned engine off and then back on, no fault. Put this down to general computer fault that required it rebooting by turning ignition off. Not had a problem since.

In which case I'd just put it down to a glitch as above and not worry about it unless it happens again.
