Smile unloaded my crappy 1.8 at last

I had a 1.8 club that gave me horrendous kangaroo and flat engine problems it was so bad my mrs wouldn't drive it but the dealer said it was fine and "they are all like that mate" i refused to accept that and now seven months after asking them to exchange it i have got a superb part ex deal (with a little help from vaux) and got myself an 05 cdti 150 sri the difference is amazing it is superb.
moral of the story folks if you are not happy don't give in and put it all in writing i did and they couldn't argue because all of my concerns were in black and white.

Good on you Dave - nice to see the customer coming out on top, instead of the dealers winning all the time. Just goes to show that perserverance can pay off! Hope you enjoy your new motor - don't forget to post some photos soon!

The 1.8 in the Astra G used to suffer in a similar way to your 1.8. The solutions varied from car to car, some not being afflicted at all, others becoming a pig to drive. Usual culprits were the ICVs (Idle Control Valve), Air Flow Meters, knock sensor and even the Emissions sensor, all have contributed to make the 1.8 hard to drive once afflicted and a pain to diagnose.

My Astra G had those probs but it was solved under warranty with a new Mass Air Flow meter and new throttle bodies..... congrats on the new car though, definitely an upgrade!

yes that was part of the frustration i knew they weren't "all like that" because i drove a mates which was fine. i think the sri has different mapping though dosen't it ?
I'm certainly not knocking anyone else's car it was mostly that the new car drove worse than the one i traded in!!!
how do you think that felt !
still all's well that ends well. only getting about 36 to the gallon at the mo (enjoying that torque) must watch the license though.
