    Default Automatics

Just out of curiosity, how many here have an Auto Vec or Signum, and why did you choose it?

I feel much more comfortable driving them that I passed my test in one, and get really annoyed with people going "Why did you get an auto?!"

I've had 3 and won't ever be switching to manual!!

both I and Mrs GSi have 3.2 auto's and her last vectra C was an auto too..as is my dads CDTi 150..

i love them and prefer them to the manuals, but the oil coolers can be fragile..

Mine has really smooth gear changes when I floor it, which is a first for any of my cars.

All my parents cars have been autos as well as my dad had an accident at work where he broke part of his spine and it affects his left leg so he can't feel it, which makes it hard for him to use a clutch.

I saw a cracking 3.0 V6 CDTi auto at the dealers. Always fancied driving a diesel auto!

As you passed in an auto you can only drive autos?? You would have to pass your test again in a manual to drive one, yes??

    Or is that complete tosh?

No that's right. I thought about it just after i passed, but then i thought 'stuff it'. I don't see the point in spending all that money again on lessons and tests. I've got a licence and a car and i'm happy

My first car was a Corsa SXi 1.2 Easytronic. What a pile of sh!te that was! You would put the foot down the pick up speed and the box went crazy! It would go from 1st to 3rd then 4th then 2nd then it would sort itself out. The Vectra is by far the best i've had, although i don't really like the manual bit for some reason.....

    The Summary....

You wouldn't go to dinner and expect to cook it yourself, so why if you can have a car that does most of the work for don't more ppl have them.

The major reasons i love autos so much are these....

1 - Car feels more refined
    2 - I'm a lazy wotnot
3 - You arrive less stressed

Whose now PX'ing in the morning for a super slushbox experience?

I hate Auto car's with a passion, wouldnt have one if it was the last car on earth!

    However.....

I love Auto Truck's, they are so much easier to drive, especially in traffic, you havent got to think so much about the driving, just enjoy it!

It's strange, that all the things about Auto's i should enjoy in a car i dont, but i do in my truck!

my s3.2 sig was the first car I have had with an auto - mind I dont think the aisin gearbox is all that suited to the 3.2 and, as GSi 3.2 said the oil coolers can be fragile!. My Dad has a near identical gearbox in his V70 and it is a peach.

The 2.4 Rav 4 auto we have over here in OZ land (where everything but the kitchen sink is auto) feels much better sorted that the vauxhall set up.

would I have another auto........yes - depends upon what sort of driving you do - round town great. Country roads - need a manual (no country roads like inthe UK) and I currently miss changing quite a bit - hence whenever we go on hol here I hire a manual!
