Default My F'kin car has broken down!!!!!!!!

Not a happy bunny at all!

In Milton Keynes earlier on, stopped then car, turned the key to start it 5 minutes later, a really big Klunk, then everything was fine. Drove round the block, and the temperature gauge was going up above normal level.

Stopped the car, opened the bonnet, looking down the side of the engine, it looks like the front pulley has snapped off!

Phoned the RAC, bloke come's out and said its snapped off, couldnt do anything with it, so towed me home.

    NOW...

Has anyone elese had a similar problem to this ,with Pulley's snapping off. I am told, that what may have happened, is the outer pulley, may have come apart from the centre of itself, Is this possible?? Is it a common problem with Vectra's?

Please help, and an idea of cost would be nice too.

Hi Im new first post and all....

Is it the crank pulley that has broken?
These cost IIRC £112 + vat
And a new belt is roughly £14

    James,

Looking down the front of the engine(2.2DTi), the botom pulley id definately not where it should be, so i take it that it has snapped. I thought it may have sheared the bolt, but it sounds like the 2.2's are known for them snapping.

Mine's a 2.0DTI. Yeah it happened on mine. Even though my dad was using it at the time i still had to pay the repair bill but i had a friend of the family fit it for me as my Vauxhall engineer mate was too busy at work. But i didn't pay that price above.

Do they go straight on, or do you have to drop the engine down to do it?

they dont have to drop the engine out but it is an absolute ***** to do. I took me , my dad, and our friend 30 minutes to get the old one off. putting the new one and belt on was minutes. put the wheel mud guard thing backin and out was a pain in the ****... it is a good idea to get vx to do it as then they can do it properly.. but if you got some mates who know a bit about the engine and stuff then do it yourself... but get the diagram of how the belt goes around the pullies as without it you'll be stumped...
