Default Vectra seats - sprung frame

As you may know from my other posts I've been having a lot of trouble with my Veccy seat giving my backache. Today I decided to have the cover off to see if anything was amiss and if any mods could be done. I discovered that the seat back is actually a main frame and a subframe which holds the top of the seat back and the head restraint mounts. It is sprung so that it pivots when the top of the seat back is pushed forward.

Anyone have a clue what this is for?

In an accident when your thrown back into your seat the pressure on the back of the seat causes the head rest to move forward, hence reducing whiplash.

Thanks for that... at least now I know what the extra springs and bits in the seat are for...
