    Default 3.0 V6 CDTi Vs 3.2 Elite

Had a bit of a "duel" with an 04 plate black 3.2 Elite going up the A404 today from Jn 8/9 of the M4.
He was in front and we both accelerated from the roundabout and lets just say he wasnt going anywhere. I thought he would pull away, but it appeared he didnt . He was certainly going for it.
Nice to see a 3.2 on the road as I've never seen that many about, and even nicer, the fact he wanted to play .

Oh to put another nail in the coffin, when I got to my destination near Cambridge I checked my fuel computer and I'd averaged 42mpg (and I wasnt hanging around)

It will also depend on how the cars being compared were driven
The 3.0 V6 CDTI isn't as fast from standstill, but can outperform the petrol above about 30mph
Ironically, both cars would get to 100mph at about the same time, and in the same distance

Try comparing the 3.0 V6 CDTI against the latest diesel Corsa...

Are you referring to the new 1.7 CDTI 123bhp? I Know it's fast compared to previous Corsa diesels but not in the same league as a V6 CDTI Vectra....or are you being ironic?

The diesel has more torque, in a 4th gear rolling start the diesel is faster, but I'm surprised you kept up! I would have thought the petrol is much faster.
Saying that I kept up with a porsche boxter the other night. He was pulling away but only just. It wasn't the S model either. He was going for it, I could tell by the puff from the exhaust when he changed up!
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

As above, the petrol Vectra will be faster up to about 50mph, but once your diesel Vectra gets to 2000rpm you will regain any lead it has and it will look like you are reeling it in...

A member of my family has the latest diesel Corsa and they just don't compare, I left it for dust!
We then tried another test, with it passing me at 50mph and then going to its maximum speed
I had caught up from a standing start in under 45 seconds

The trick with the diesel is to change gear and keep the revs above 2000rpm

Yes you could be right . But I'm not the only 3.0 V6 who has kept up with a 3.2 engine .
Anyway, guys, I've driven a 3.2 petrol some years back and its a truly fantastic engine. I just couldnt justify the running costs .

Had some Audi thing on my tail going back down the same road later in the day. He was right up my a55 and could do nothing to shake him . No idea what it was, never seen the badge.

I never take the revs above 4K as max bhp is at 4K. Not much point in taking it any higher as the power drops off after that.

    No, 2000rpm
The turbo is just active at this point and that is the lower end of the maximum torque (1900 to 2800 rpm)

Unless you mean the 3.2 V6 petrol?
In which case you probably want no less than 4000rpm
This engine is more about power than torque, so I'd probably go for gear changes with revs not below 6000rpm
