Default Marble in my dashboard ?

My 2005 SRI vectra has developed a strange noise which appears to be inside the dashboard ?
It sounds like a marble rolling around inide the dasbord when I turn either left or right, although it doesn't always do it. Also sometimes it does it when going over bumps or even when in a straight line.

I had a 52 SXI before this car and it had exactly the same problem shortly before I sold it.

I have been having some handling issues recently after my local dealer replaced all four tyres under recall. This appeared to be cured after the fifth attempt at balancing them, which was carried out by the third different garage I tried.

But I am now wondering if this had a bearing on it all along as the problem appears to be coming back.

    Any ideas anyone ?

I suspect it is suspension related, hence posting it on here.

I might sound stupid but is there anything in your ashtray. I once put some change for the parking meter and I had an anoying rattle for ages, till I sussed thet it was the change rattleing in the ashtray.
There is an issue with the radiator mounting bushes, could it be those, but also there is a problem with the springs in the spring mounts. Have a look in the user CP for common faults, you might find some help there.

    Default Update

Tried driving with the glove box open - noise persists.
Removed coin holder thingy in front of gear stick - noise persists.

Definite metallic sound , something rolling about front left side of dashboard.
If I steer left it seems to stop until I turn right and vice versa, although this is not always the case. Occasionally it just makes its noise on straight and level surfaces.

I am guessing towards a broken left spring and, also guessing, reckon this exaggerated the wheel balance problems.

The car just feels 'vague' in the steering department.

Have you checked under the scuttle panel where the windscreen wipers are? You might be able to have a peep in where the pollen filter is, You never know there might be a stray service tool in there!

How do I check the bushes ? Is it a straightforward thing ?
I will check by the wipers, obviously the 'fault-finding' is on-going !

When I have something 'concrete' I will take it back to the dealers, until then I don't fancy a few hours sat around waiting for the inevitable 'we can't find anything wrong'.

With all due respect my local dealer has been pretty good, but the wheel balancing fiasco dented my confidence.
