    Default Which Vectra to replace.. my Vectra with?

    Hi crew,

    As some of you may remember after writing off my 2.0 DTi SXi Vectra and getting paid out for it, I'm on the car hunt. I'm considering another Vectra and my options are:

    The 2.0 DTi Vectra (again) - One of the SXi or higher spec versions

    + Good reliable engine
    + Cheap, can probably get from auction for £3500-4000 now.
    - 100bhp, a tad slow.

    The 2.2 DTi Vectra - Again a decent trim level

    + More powerful, 130bhp is it?
    + Still relatively cheap
    - Apparantly the least reliable engine?
    - Fuel economy not as good?

    or.. The 1.9 CDTi versions.. which I have many questions about:

    i) 120 or 150 bhp.. is there much difference in 1) performance and 2) fuel economy?

    ii) The trim level - Which to get? I've seen SXi versions and SRi versions.. then stuff like Design etc. Can someone please outline the main differences? Do they all have the standard suspension bar the SRi versions?

    iii) Any negative points with the 1.9 CDTi engines? Are they better than the 2.0 DTi and as reliable?

    I'm currently driving a Pug 307 110 HDi which is pretty nippy I must admit, however I really miss having a Vectra so want to go back to one.

    Where to start
    1.9CDTi 150 Design can be had for around 6.5K early LS models for around 5.5K with a few miles on them.
    150 does slightly less mpg than the 120 but still over 40mpg and with more fun and if you stick a box on it wahoo!!!!!!

    2.2DTi is 125bhp.

    Spec levels vary up the range from Life, LS, Elegance, SXi, Design, SRi, Elite and GSi (3.2v6 only) I think that's the right order
    If you want all the toys go for an Elite and change the soft springs for SRi ones as it's cheaper than trying to add the toys to an SRi

    All cars go wrong and the CDTi is no exception. Looked after they are no worse than any others.

    Thanks for the info Caterman that was most useful.

    I should have mentioned that ideally I want to spend between £4000-5000. I know some of you guys are gonna say that I won't find a CDTi for that price, but I'm going to be buying from auction so the prices will be lower than private and dealers, so it might just be possible.

    Is the SRi the only version with the lower and stiffer suspension?

    One thing that was disapointing about my 2.0 DTi was that I couldn't remap it so was stuck with 100bhp. How tune-able is the 2.2DTi? From posts here I see the 1.9 is very easily tuneable to give big bhp.. sounds greaat.
