    Default EGR valve and Swirl Valve

    ok i know this has prob been asked b4, but wot the living hell is a EGR valve and Swirl Valve, and wot do they look like? (pics??) i checked my engine bay and all i see is shiny things lol, also any way of knowin if these are shot? warranty endin soon wanna get them sorted if they are shot, knowin my luck and the day the warranty ends these will **** up.

    The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve and the swirl valve are both to do with the inlet manifold, but i'm not sure where exactly they are. You'll know if they're shot, because the engine management light will come on.

    I've had them both done under warranty and my car is not quite 2 years old.

    EGR, to improve emissions, exhaust gas is fed into the inlet manifold, after the turbo. This increases the temperature and improves combustion. As the fuel/air mixture needs to be accurately adjusted to take into account the exhaust gas then failure of this system causes poor performance.

    Not so sure about the swirl valve, but I think it works as follows: helps bring the fuel-air mixture to a high swirl rate at low rpm. This leads to efficient combustion and high torque. At high rpm the swirl is reduced and this in turn improves power output.
