Im lucky enough to have access to both at a very short distance from my house and was wondering which would be best to use to get more range and which is proved to be cleaner and more economical friendly.

As far as I can work out fuel in that area comes from PetroPlus at Teeside (Billingham)
The BP Ultimax should return a small improvement, if used consistently
However, the cost per mile is still greater, and I wouldn't bother
I dont just think its about the MPG gain you get, Its about what it does to the engine that other pump fuels dont. I think, and it is only a think, that it cleans the internals of the engine as its used, it improves performance, and general running of the car. I have used it, albeit only 1 tankful, but i noticed a marked difference in the way the car ran and performed.
It is more expensive than normal diesel, but when your paying 96p a litre round here, another 3p a litre aint gonna break the bank is it.
I don't know about the diesel but i did experiment with the unleaded Shell Optimax and BP Ultimate unleaded with my last car (Honda Civic Type R).I found that the car ran well on the Optimax but it ran better with the BP Ultimate. I haven't tried the BP Ultimate diesel and don't think it'll make much of a difference.
havent tried either in a car, but i tried BP ultimate petrol in my bike, was ok, tried Shell optimax (now called something else) f***ing amazing, i didnt try them for the extra power, i just tried them to clean my tank out as they help burn EVERYTHING that goes through the fuel system, so when its p155ing down and the tank got a good drink of sky juice, the fuel helped burn that up too
I agree for petrol shell optimax/v-power is IMO defo the better.
I use BP Ultimate diesel every time. Can tell a difference in performance compared with cheaper stuff (else I wouldnt use it)
I have the same choice and was Shell al the way...but a few months ago I tried BP. WOW!
The guys at TUNIT who rolling roaded my car told me BP use an additive that improves power and economy!
I use BP ultimate diesel, i don't see any real improvement in performance of economy, but it makes the engine run much quieter. And i like the idea that it's cleaning the injectors as it goes well worth the extra 2 or 3 quid a tank.
Personally, I don't think you'll see a lot of improvement using either of these fuels on a standard 1.9 engine (can't speak for 3.0). Vx design the things to run on relatively poor quality fuel after all, don't they :/
Tuning boxes & remaps, go for it imo, mine seems to run better on either of these fuels compared to the standard Tesco stuff.
