Frog Plague hits Grand Canaria !
Initial reports of a frog plague of biblical proportions from the Spanish owned Canary Islands have been investigated and verified!
Our travel correspondent has seen the reported frog plague for himself, previous reports from returning holidaymakers of having to walk on frogs simply to get about are in fact an understatement.
There has been an estimated 1.8 million frogs spawned across the island, more than 20 for every human on the island. Scientists blame the warm wet weather and a mild winter that allowed huge numbers of beach sand bugs to multiply – and provide a ready diet for the hungry frogs.
Islanders described the frogs as “unusual” but holidaymakers said walking on squashed frogs throughout the resorts was repulsive and the stench from dead frogs was stomach turning.
Las Palmas was the worst affected area with every square meter of pavement containing on average 12 frogs, Tourist bosses said there is no need to panic as the local rat population eats frogs – and has started to multiply in huge numbers to take advantage of the ready food supply.
When asked if the huge rats would pose a health risk a spokesman said “not unless they have no more frogs to eat”.
ok its not true, just typed it and showed my daughter who is going there next week, you should have seen her face when I told her it was copy & pasted from BBC news.
