    Default 1.9CDTi EML & Excessive Boost Pressure

    Another 1.9CDTI running in limp home mode ....

    Engine lost power, next to no acceleration available, and then spanner light came on.

    Stopped engine, waited 10 mins, and no spanner light, but still very limited power, despite sounding normal at idle and under gentle revs in neutral.

    Took to local Vx, and Computer says excessive boost pressure. Their apparent lack of knowledge doesn't inspire me.

    Could this be leaky EGR valve, or the dreaded swirl valve problem documented in other threads?

    Vehicle out of warranty, are there any good independent garages that have Test 2 and specialist knowledge?

    Can we have a spanner light icon!!

    How common are problems with this engine?

    These engines have more than their fair share of probs, if its over boosting it could possibly be a turbo fault or vacuum fault, or maybe just a pressure sensor fault. really need to get it checked out by a competant garage......... if you can find one!!

    Could also be a faulty turbo.....there's been a few of those mentioned here too. Good luck

    Thanks for advice

    Had Car (1.9CDTi) back now for a week post Vx agent taking a look.

    Slight improvement on return, last 800 miles I have been using Redex Diesel Injector cleaner additive in the fuel, and it has made a significant improvement, but still less than 150 horses. The problem seems to affect off boost torque more than anything else....

    The problem has now changed to cause the Engine Management light to come on and revert to limp home if I rev above 3800 rpm in 3rd gear or higher. Absolutely no problem in first or second.... wierd.

    I'll get it back into Vx in next week.

    Hi there, I had a similar problem with my Facelift Vectra SRI CDTI 150, no grunt under 3000 rpm and then light came on when booting it. Took it to Vauxhall and came up with Boost PRessure Sensor, Swirl Valve and Inlet Manifold. Had these replaced and the thing is like a rocket. Before this, the car would not move until it got to 3000 rpm. Now the power is constant after 1.5 to 1.75k rpm. WOW and what a difference, if this sounds similar to your problem, get these things checked out. Hoep this helps.

    my signum with the same engine has just developed the same prob! spanner came on the went off again and the engine management light now comes on if the sanner aint on and vice a versa going to garage tommorow as local dealership has lost all customer care skills! but will be watchin this space closely

    just had report back for my problem mate new swirl pot and inlet manifold they are doing it wed and under warranty so will see if it cures problem!
