Default CCNA Cisco Certified Network Associate is it worth it?

My current job is driving me crazy, I like it, I’m good in it, but still its driving me mad especially my co-workers and customers I’m a pub manager on 32k a year, not too bad for someone who can't speak fluent English and come here just 3 years ego a few years back I was studying IT (only 2 years finished) and I was preparing for CCNA exams (Cisco Certified Network Associate) and I was thinking, maybe now it’s a good time to start it again, I have good overall knowledge about computers (hardware, software, networks) but I know it won’t be easy, because it’s so damn hard to memorize everything in English, i like challenges, but.. , what you think guys, is it worth it, should I be able to find any decent job ?

I started doing the CCNA course a few years ago but due to work commitments could not carry it on. I wish i had found a way to fit it in now as i am a lot older and really need to stop repairing $hitty catering equipment.
I'd say go for it, the computer world is here to stay and networking is big business. The college i was at helped to find a job at the end of the course but what it is like now i don't know.

Maybe time for me to find out about it all over again

working in computers can be big money, and with the qualifications you will have can't see it being a problem getting a good job afterwards..

Slightly off topic, but if you have a good knowledge of computers and networks already, have you thought about starting out on your own with a small business with this in mind?.

Although I am a full time firefighter, I have recently started my own small PC repair/upgrade and web design and hosting business.

The work is coming in thick and fast, in fact its surpassed all my expectations of how I thought it might start off!!!.

I used to do PC repairs etc, for workmates, friends and through word of mouth. I never asked or charged for any work done, almost always getting a crate of beer or a few bottles of wine in payment from people.

Now I'm charging, as I said, the work has been flowing in very nicely, so much so that I have had to turn away a few jobs here and there as I'm so busy, expecially with the web design and hosting side of things.

I have no qualifications as such, I'm self taught.

Certainly worth thinking about. All you need to do is sort your self out a decent accountant, register yourself as a sole trader and get a business bank account up and running.

Might be worth giving it a go and see how it all pans out.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

    Gaz.

The CCNA gives you a good basic overview of networking, it will give you the knowledge of basic Cisco router and switch configuration, and many I.T companies will employ you. However a CCNA does not give you much for the ISP industry as it is very basic.

I would still recommend anybody doing the CCNA who wants to go a step further than home computer networking.

I'm a CCNP myself need to do my IE by this time next year.
