Default No Sound from My PC...Any ideas.

I have had a problem with sound on the PC for a while now. This week it finally died.

    or So I think.

So I fitted a new sound card (Sound Blaster).....Result.....No sound of any type. Any suggestions?

Did you put in the same PCi slot that the old one came out of or a different one?

Are the devices all installed properly? i.e. is the SoundBlaster listed in the Device Manager with no yellow exclamation mark next to it?

If that's okay, have you definitely installed all the drivers as that will then add a bunch of other bits 'n' bobs under the Sound, Video and Game Controllers section.

Did you replace a sound card or did you previously use on-board sound?

If you are using a sound card instead of on-board then a) as mentioned above you need to use the speaker outputs from the sound card and b) you will probably need to disable the on-board sound.

Go into the BIOS settings and see if there is anything related to sound (such as on-board vs PCI)

Hit del on boot up to enter Bios. Not sure what the sound devices are listed as but could find anything.

Also try headphones incase u made ur speakers go *POP*

Plus if the soundcard isnt working properly sometimes u will get an error message about it when trying 2 play a sound in media player that theres no sound hardware installed

then theres the little mistakes which can happen like:

Plugged into Line IN rather than Line OUT
Plugged into MIC rather than Line OUT
Cables come loose from back of speakers
A jumper from the motherboard has come off (usually the case with OB sound)

In BIOS its usually named AC97 Audio or something similar

if thats enabled then itll be the primary sound controller over your soundblaster card which will disable it

if its enabled just disable (toggle using the Page up / page down keys)
