    Default Ipod Vs The Rest

Looking for a media player so I can store my CDs and albums when I go to sea etc...I like the Ipod design, but IIRC you can't play ipod format files on other systems or something?

I like the look of the Samsung YPK5JAB and a couple of Sonys.

What's pro's and Cons of ipod vs the rest?

My I pod plays MP3's, same as my other MP3 players of old.

iPods use AAC (mp4) by default but they'll happily play mp3s.

The only restrictions apply to music you purchase from the iTunes store.

    Most current players support AAC.

yep, you can upload your own CD's to the Ipod, so if you've bought the music before then you can take it with you..

As above Steve. Ipods will happily play mp3s and Itunes will convert any that are AAC to mp3 (and vice versa). It's quite a versatile piece of software.

Need to upgrade the headphones though.

main thing with ipods is the accessories you can get for them. docking speakers, now teamed up with nike so you can monitor your runs (if you go running...) arm straps, car kits, fm tuners, etc. just type in google ipod accessories and there's hundreds of sites.

What about if I buy files off the net? Will the ipod play them? Do I have to use the Itunes site to buy new tracks for the ipod?

As above 4000 mp3 straight over to a 30 gig iPod. Converting CD's is a breeze too. Load iTunes & put a CD in & automatic & very rapid conversion to mp4 - I'm well impressed
