Default Problems with my 1.8 SXi.

My computers really playing up here, so please excuse me if my posts are wrongin any way.

Bought a 1.8 Sxi last week from a private sale, 52 plate, 42k Miles. £3500. got it home, did about 170 miles in it no problems, then the exhaust control light came on, car was driving really juddery, and poor, managed to get it to a garage and the diagnostic machine said it needs a new crank shaft sensor, and an induction clean.

Two other things that might affect it, it had a new egr valve fitted at 38k, and also i hit a plastic bucket which got stuck under my car the same day the problems arrived.

The cars now worse than ever, its like the engine is strugglin to stay running, thats if i can even get it to start. its really juddery, ive got out and had a listen to it, you can hear it from the engine right through to the end of the exhaust, the engine is jumping from below 1000 revs to one and a half, nearly stalling, not doin, nearly stalling not doing... alternately every couple of seconds. im really concerned about it, really cant see how a sensor could be causing the car to do this?

    Can anyone give any advice?

thanks so much for your time.

I had a Renault that had the same problem. I used clean the idle control valve and it would be ok for a few months then it would return and I would clean it again. It is actually a part that is made and used by GM I mean it is exactly the same in every detail so your engine may have the same part but I could be wrong and they don't use it any more.

The engine has many sensors on it and i the car detects a problem it usually puts itself into limp mode (just enough power to get you home or get you off the motorway), the car might have gone into this with your broken sensors.

Its only happened to me once and to be honest I was able to drive it to dealer ok and it wasn't trying to stall. Have you checked all the simple stuff? You never know the bucket may have dinted tour zorst to a point where the gasses are struggling to get through?
