    Default Broken Mileage Reset?

    Hey folks,

I'm brand spankin new to this forum after spending sum time googling a way to get rid of the service light from my dash

Had the car serviced 2 months ago (b4 i started new job) and after being serviced they didnt reset the service indicator... so for 2 months ive had 2 endure the extra graphic coming up :P oh the agony

Ne ways i found on here how 2 sort is by holding the mileage reset switch down and turning on the ignition and holding for a further 20 seconds...

My problem is that my mileage button seems to be broken as it doesnt do its job... the nob feels loose and does nothing when i try pushing it down

Any1 mind givin their views on how i should go about it? (i.e. go to dealers etc)

    Thanx in advance

    Sunny

Yep, if you go to a dealers they can turn it off for you via tech2..is the stalk loose in it's housing then?? it may have become detached.. try lining it it and pushing it in and this time stick your foot on the brake pedal at the same time as holding the button in, then turn the ignition to posn 2.. that does it every time....

yeah the stalk is loose and has no clear responsive feel (like a click) when i push it in... which is pretty annoying when u wanna see how many miles ur destination is.

if i were to get it done by the dealers u reckon they'd charge?

plus itd b pretty cool to be able 2 do it myself usin the mileage reset and footbrake method

im gonna be trying them other tricks like opening and closing windows with the fob and the 30 sec high beams trick so i dont have to endure any more snail squishing as im walking up my drive

    Thanx for the advice

PS great forum, learnt sooo much bout the car

it doesn't click at all, it just pushes in to a stop..

the dealers will want around £40 which seems to be a fairly standard minumum job price for them..

wanna know what im lookin for when i go have another play (tried last night at around 12ish and couldnt see)

The stalk/button thingy is sprung, yes. It only pushes in a few mm though.

Try feeling for a thread on it, and twist it gently, clockwise I suggest, and see if it bites a thread.

    thanks chaps

it only twists like an 1/8th of a rotation in both directions

ive been told there supposed to be a rubber button behind which has either become depressed (lol) and not coming back up or has moved out of place

either way the dash has to come off :/

if made a few calls and the earliest i can have sum1 do it is next saturday

any guides on how i can go about taking the dash appart?

i only get the weekends to do this stuff as i dont get home till 8 durin the week n thought itd b a pretty cool mission 2 take onboard (even if it only takes a few hours)

ive taken a quick gander at it and i see a handfull of fixings but i dont wanna end up snapping any fittings... ive got a rattling sunglasses holder in the headliner as it is dunt want any other new noises

right time 2 get down the barbers n get my head chopped

iirc, you need to take, steering cowling off and you should be able to get at the torx screws, pull forwards and disconect the instruments from the ribbons, might need to take the wheel off to get the instruments out though.

Disconnect the battery for at least half an hour before you start to disable the air bag module . If it was me I'd disconnect it an hour before.
