    Angry EML returns....

Car's booked in for monday, just wondered if anyone could hazard a guess at the reason the annoying spanner light's on again?

It's been on and off a few times now. It comes on only when the engine's warm, and (possibly coincidentally) cruising at 60 or 70 on the dual carriageway. Car goes into limp mode.

Turning the ignition off and on again resets the light, but again, once its up to temp and i get on a dual carriageway or similar, it comes back on.

It's a 55 plate facelift 1.9cdti 150. 19,000 miles, k&n and spider box fitted with no problems for the last 1500 miles or so. It's already had a new inlet manifold and (i think) swirl valve about 6 months ago. No idea if they would have replaced the EGR valve at the same time or not?

Judging by other member's experiences, I would think either EGR valve or DPF, but that's only by the law of averages, theres not a single fact to back it up

    Any clues?

Well, its been in and been fixed.

It was the DPF at fault this time. I'm not exactly sure what they did to it because the girl behind the counter was being a bit coy with the job sheet, but as she was reading it (badly) she mentioned regeneration.....

Oh, and they've flashed the latest software to the ECU too. Not sure what effect if any that will have, but it's fixed

And HOW sluggish without a box on? re-connected it at work tonight, can't wait to drive back in the morning!

What'll be next then? DMF or faulty turbo? Hmmm.....

just be careful now, as these boxes and DPF's are at odds with each other.... the DPF could have been killed by the amount of soot that the engine was producing and it was unable to regenerate often enough to keep itself clean... we had 2 DPF's fitted and the software updates ( which then caused rough cold running ) and they asked us if it had been boxed, straight away!!

even with the new software ( to make it regenerate more often) i'd still be wary about fitting a tuning box to a vehicle with a DPF, especially as the DPF uses the turbo to overheat the filter to clean it, so more regenerations leads to bigger stress on the turbo..and we know thet they are fragile enough anyway..
