    Default Help! Alarm/Horn problems!

    Hello there.

I recently bought a Vectra 3.2 GSI. Great car but the alarm is driving me mad!

The horn is going off for no apparent reason (which I'm presuming is the alarm sounding?) and won't go off when I open the car with the key fob or start the car. It goes off on it's own eventually (after about 30 secs I think which according to the manual is the alarm reset time) but it is making me very unpopular with my neighbours!

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

    Default Help! Alarm/Horn problems!

Something else I would like to know, hopefully someone can help me before my neighbours lynch me!

Should the horn actually sound when the alarm goes off?

The car has an alarm siren in one of the storage compartments in the boot which I don't belileve is going off when the horn sounds (although the horn is so ****** loud that I probablt couldn't hear it anyway - especially at 1 in the morning!) so I'm not sure if this is actually an alarm problem or a horn fault?

Any advice for a new Vectra owner would be greatly appreciated.

    Russ.

P.S does anyone want to buy a Mondeo ST200! (My other car that I'm trying to sell since getting the Vectra GSI)

Sounds very weird. I'm sure the horn shouldn't sound when the alarm goes off. Have you thought about getting it exorcised. LOL

If you can't get it into Vx straight maybe you should disconnect the horn. Can the road horn be disconnected, anyone?

the road horn can be simply unplugged. Its just a loud speaker at the endof the day with 2 wires. Just pull the wires off it.

I would do as alex says and take it to a dealer to sort as my horn doesnt go off ( i wish it would....may make it a bit more notciable)

O.k. Cheers for that. Am trying to get it into the dealer today (Brindley in Cannock).

Does anyone on the forum have any experience of them?

Got it into the dealer (Brindley in Cannock) this afternoon and so far they've been very accommodating. Considering I didn't buy it from them they've got it in at short notice so that's a good start. They even offered to lock it up in their compound so that it wouldn't annoy my neighbours!

After explaining the problem they think it may have something to do with an alarm sensor strip in the rear quarter glass. Apparently this strip gets broken and the car thinks that the glass has been smashed - hence the alarm. Interestingly they tell me that they've had a few Vectra C's with this problem and that it's quite common.

They also told me that on some of the Vectra security systems the horn goes off as well as the alarm siren? Not sure if this is accurate as I didn't think that was the case. Anyway, I'l withold judgement until they tell me the result of a diagnostics check and how much it's going to cost!

I still find it strange that if it is alarm related it won't shut off when you open the car with the fob or start the car.

    Will keep you guys informed.

Even if the horn is still sounding just pull the fuse that supplies it.

    Simple

If the horn can be connected to the alarm, I'd like to know how as the standard sounder on the alarm is pants.

I hope they sort it for you bud.

I suggested pulling the fuse as a temporary measure but the dealer said they did not recommend it. Suppose they are just covering themselves which is fair enough.

Pulling the fuse might make the alarm think it is being disconnected and just make it go off anyway, they have a backup battery so they can still go off when a thieving toe-rag cuts the power.
