I would say just buy the "Caterman" for 65quid if you want a tuning box.
I did first, but it wouldn't work on my car. At £375 the spider is very expensive, and probably not worth the extra (at a guess, because this is my first tuning box, the spider).
I'm kind of thinking of going back to standard, reliable motoring is the most important thing.

No, on the contrary its been great so far. But, I've only had the car for 8000miles (6000 with the spider), and its too early to tell.
Just from reading a lot of post on this forum, most of the guys who've been having trouble with the diesels are those with the tuning boxes, and that is a worry for me.
On the other hand, the car is a superb drive with the box - the same can be said for the caterman by all accounts.

If you fit a tuning box and anything goes wrong with the car you can take it off in 5 mins and your Vauxhall dealer will not have a clue its ever been fitted as if you get a remap thats permenant! (and will invalidate your warranty) i've fitted the CRD2 box in mine and its wicked!! You can get it from here!

The service from this guy (Andrew) is spot on!!
Just so you know my car is a "56 plate" and had 9500 mls on it when i bought it on the 01/03/07 i fitted the box 1 week after buying the car. It now has 14000 mls on it and i've had no probs at all!!

Out of all the tuning boxes on the market today the Spider is by far the most advanced box. If you get a tuning box get the spider! It's far more intelligent than any other box in the fact that it drops profiles automatically when not needed. Other boxes stay on a particular profile until user intervention, thus placing a permanent strain on the fuelling system.

It has "Multi Ignition Map Technology"™, which is an exclusive improved algorithm map software which constantly refers to pre-programmed ignition maps specific to your engine, and combined with RPM detection which monitors your engines RPM (other systems are simply boosting fuel delivery pressure pro rata at all times as the device has no idea what speed the engine is at). Then give it the ability to switch between sports mode, and economy mode. This means the system will automatically switch into economy mode when the car is being driving lightly, and then when hard acceleration is applied, it will switch back into performance mode within 0.1 seconds. The Spider also benefits from a short program delay which is designed to help prevent over fuelling and smoke issues when the vehicle is started from cold.

So, if you go for a Tuning Box, my only recommendation is the Spider.

I'm not completely in agreement with what AJA says, if cash was no object I might be tempted to go for the spider box over the CRD2 from DTUK but cash is always an issue for the majority of us.
Given the fact that I have had my CRD2 on the car for near on 6 months without any problems whatsoever and an awesome gain in power which is delivered very smoothly, I think I'd be ill informed to go for a much more expensive option.

Regular servicing and oil changes are very important when using any system that places extra load on the engine and various components.

If my car was out of warranty I would not cosider the spider box either as the price is so close to the price of a remap which is also kinder to your engine if done so professionaly and with engine parameters and tolerances in mind.

In short the CRD2 gives good performance, a choice of 4 power/torque curves and has yet not gave me or any of the other guys in clubvs who have them any problems.

I see your point matey, in my opinion you get what you pay for.

I've been running a tuning box since July 2005 and I've tried nearly all of them.
