timing chain rattle

any info would be appreciated, my vectra 2.2 52 plate,75000miles,fsh,and has the a really bad rattle from the drivers side, took the car to the dealers yestarday, and they said it was the timing chain, they checked to see if they were any recalls on this year, but they were none, heard about some early 2.2's that had a problem,told this to the boy behind the service desk, and he just looked at me as if i was stupid, never heard that one before he said, anyway the price for the chain- kit was £185+vat and they would have to keep the car in for three days, to do the job, a very big job he siad, in the end he couldn't give me a final price, somewhere between £550+, my jaw hit the floor i have no option but to book it in next tuesday, my worry is does my car have the old lube nozzles, and what if they dont change them, when they replace the chain, will the rattle come back,i said this to the boy, and there was a 5min silence could feel all the eye's on the service desk looking at me again, walked away blood boiling, im i asking the right questions, should i find somewhere cheaper or is this price the norm!!!!

it souns about right..When they change the chain, they will also change the slippers and the oil jets.. it's a bit of a bigger job than a cambelt change but it doesn't take 3 days....

once changed it won't need doing again for about the same mileage..and it won't rattle either..

Not sure about the date the mod was introduced but i wouldn't take a car 5 yrs old to a main dealer,buy the parts if you want from them for peace of mind and find a good local garage,it'll cut your labour bill by half.

Vx quoted me £800 to do mine on my old 2.2dti

Tyreman, the oil spray thingy was on the petrol engines not the diesel ones mate

had been round all the small garages and none would touch the doing the chain, is it usual for the dealers not to give a exact price for the work that needs done, just don't wont a phone call saying your cars ready,and the price is a lot more then they quoted me earlier, think i will have to go back down, and get a fixed price if thats possible

if they have quoted you a price, they should stick to it, unless they find further work and secure your permission to do it.

As for the oil jet im sure all vec C Z22SE were fitted with the newer larger jet. You could try giving Benny a PM as he does all the Chain work for all the boys on Z22SE forum, good price and some great feedback.

yeah drop bye www.z22se.co.uk and check it out ....i charge £230 all in for the chain kit mate .....thats the kit and fitting ! and a oil and filter change
