    Default Rattles

I bought my Vectra 6 months ago and I'm a little disappointed with the amount of rattling coming from various bits of it. It's only done 36k and seems worse than my Vectra B which had done well over 100k...

Can anyone give me some ideas of common rattles in this car and how to cure them. I seem to get one from the passenger side (somewhere), another in the ceiling above the passenger seat and a nasty clunking when going over speed humps...

The passenger side - in mine anyway seems to be beneath the glovebox - mind you that will probably be my own doing because I have had thing thing out more times than I care to think. As for the rest.... who knows

I could hear a nasty rattling the other day in my car, had me a bit worried till i realised that it was just the girlfriends taste in music and she had hijacked the cd player

Ok, here we go. Mines is an SRi (2005)

First rattle I had was the tailgate area, there is an excellent post on this forum of how the trim cover covering the rear window wiper can rattle against the tailgate (as it was doing in my car) and how to solve it. I solved this one, Wedged a rubber stopper between the trim and back window and has been silent ever since.

The other rattle is from the centre console/armrest. Never managed to solve this one but if i hold the centre console firmly, the rattle stops.

I do find my vectra has trim rattles more than most recent cars ive owned.

    good luck

Mine is a saloon 03.....the rattle over speed bumps sugest you need to do the spring seat mod, described in several theads around here, basically you go to the dealears an buy this rubber things for the front springs and have to install them....not a home kind of job.....the rubber things are not expensive by the way....
I have a noise coming from the B pilar behind the seat bealt area....sounds some sort of structural torsion causing the noise....I have to take a peek soon...I´m getting crazy by this...
And the boot noise described above.
Good luck in you rattle hunt

Not so much a rattle but a creaking noise coming from the tailgate area.

The cause is the rubber corner stops moving slightly against the rubber inserts above the rear light clusters.

The cure is to put a very fine film of grease on the two rubber bits, I used a teflon based bicycle grease.

I got this tip from a VX techie at the dealership I bought the car from, he claimed they had a special grease for the job. I didn't want to pay the special price as I know it would have taken them at least an hour to apply + VAT

    Regards

Same here re noise from drivers side B pillar. Tried many times to locate it - thought it may be the door straps - but no ! Trying again at the weekend...........

Rattle from front suspension at low speed over speed humps etc - probably the anti roll bar bushes which I'll get the dealer to look at when I can be bothered.
