    confused Smelly Air con?

As the weather has warmed up I found the need to switch on the air con for the first time this yr!!
I tend to stick it on re-circ as it cools the car quicker, but when I switch it off, the is a rather damp smelling odour for about 2-3 mins afterwards? Does anyone else get this? I had it in my old vectra too.

You can buy an item from Halfrauds that you place in the rear of the car, put the AC on full with re-circulation and activate the unit, shutting all the doors. It worked a treat on mine and only cost about £12!!

Always happens Marty, bacteria gets the blame, but i think personally it's just the plastic reacting.

Could try the comma kit, sure to freshen it up for a few goes, but I'm sure it will return again shortly, the kits worth getting though cos they reckon it does a fabreeze thing to the seats and carpets as well.

That's the problem, it's been left sat over winter not being used so bacteria has built up. You need to try and use it over winter, just turn it on but with the heat turned up* - not only will it keep your system clear, it'll defrost your windows in double-quick time. Another 'side-effect' is that the seals are more likely to dry out and you lose your gas.

    * - that's basically what Climate Control does. Conditions the air but heats or cools it as required automatically.

Never used it on my 1.8 ls cos it ate petrol.

'tis a downside - it uses more petrol, significantly so on some engines as you've seen.

Mine is more economical with the A/C going! On the run last week it average over 46 to the gallon and that wasn't hanging about either!! Without A/C there's no way it would have been higher.

But then as we know, my car is just wierd.
