Default Me a wally, now spanner light is on

Right folks, did something very stupid today. I have a pre-facelift SRI hatch 150 CDTi and decided i was going to change the air filter a Vx for a Vx one (£8). Took the cover off and wat **** was in the bottom so decided to vaccum it out but couldnt be bothered with electric hoover so got a 12 volt one and plugged it in to 12 v socket in car, wouldnt work until the engine was running but therein lies the problem, I had disconnected the MAF plug and as soon as the engine started, up came the spanner and EMS light on the dash. Wot a wally!!!. So didnt want to go for a full reset of the car by disconnecting the battery so took out fuse 15 under the bonnet (ECU fuse) for 30 mins. This seemed to get rid of the EMS light but the spanner light is still on at engine startup but goes outa after a couple of secs. My question, is:- this a tech 2 jobby to get rid of spanner or will a battery disconnect for 30 mins do the jobby? BTW the removal of the fuse did not reset the trip so unsure if this did anything at all. Oh and removed the bottom trumpet at same time from air box.
    Comments welcome.

    cheers

thats for the SERVICE light. Oil Can & Car in display. Might be a tech2 job so the code can be cleared from ECU. spose a battery disconnect might work - worth a try me thinks.

disconnecting the battery will cure that spanner light. just leave it off for 15 mins before reconnecting and it'll be gone..

Ok cheers all, I will after becoming confident on re-entering radio code. Windows not a problem as I have had the fuse out earlier and know how to deal with that. BTW its a Jan 05 model.

if you have the scroll wheel steering wheel, not the one with 6 pushbuttons, then you won't need to enter any radio code....otherwise, if it does ask for a code ( safe mode) then it's a doddle to put back in, but it shouldn't ask for one at all..

If your worried about doing it take it to your VX garage, get them to look at it under warranty!

(just don't tell them what you did!)
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Quick update:- got out early this morning, disconnected the battery negative terminal. Heavy rain started approx 15 mins later so re-connected the battery. The usual things were reset that I expected but the spanner light still appears at start up then goes out (as it did before). I will try disconnecting for a longer period in better weather but I suspect there is some things now written to non-volatile memory (does not lose its memeory on power removal) and the spanner light being one. Other things that were not reset included:- distance to go before fuel refill, average MPG, distance till next service.
GSi, you were correct about the radio, it functioned perfectly, no codes to be entered, presets still valid. Date and time were gone but with clock sync on, all you do is have the radio on the BBC for a few mins and its set.

    cheers

Ok final update. I disconnected battery for 1 hour and the spanner and the EMS light still stays on as long as you have it on ignition setting. Once engine is started, all warning lights are out. So in conclusion, 2005 SRi 1.9 CDTi (150) that has a spanner light, this warning log cannot be reset by simply disconnecting the car battery. It will have be reset by dealers. Dont know if I can be bothered with the hassle and functionally the car is ok.

on pre facelift once the spanner light comes on it will stay there till either you get it reset by vauxhall stealers or after a few weeks it will go out, mine usually takes about 2 weeks to go out then is ok(although fault code still stored in memory)
I have a powerclick green fitted and if i move setting from 11 oclock position up or down spanner comes on,move back to 11 oclock and after 2 weeks it goes out
